I read somewhere that you should not coach who your athletes are, but rather who they can become.

It made me want to share my experiences.

Coaching is more than just improving technical skills—it's about seeing the potential within each athlete and guiding them to greatness. So coaching with a forward-thinking mindset does matters:

As a coach we need to inspire and motivate: Athletes thrive when they know their coach believes in their potential.

We also need to foster a focus on long-term development. This will ensure that athletes doesn't plateauing and hence being prevented for future growth.

Push your athletes, but make sure you build their confidence. I've seen coaches misunderstanding this and pushed their athletes to a point where they left the sport. In every session we should strive to reinforce their belief in their abilities and future success.

Some strategies I've used for Coaching Potential:

1. Individualized Plans: Tailor training to each athlete's unique potential.

2. Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate progress and small victories.

3. Growth Mindset: Encourage viewing challenges as opportunities.

4. Future-Oriented Feedback: Highlight how current efforts lead to future success.

5. Role Models: Introduce mentors who exemplify achievable heights.

It's important that we guide them to overcome challenges:

- Patience & Persistence: Growth takes time.

- Open Communication: Address concerns and provide support.

- Adaptability: Adjust strategies to meet individual needs.

One major impact in developing sustainable strong athletes is to build an environment where the strong relations in-between the athletes creates a culture of continuous improvement and builds a legacy of success. This is the recipe to have athletes reach heights they never thought possible!
